Here's the Heads Up #21

Here are a few upcoming events in Dublin and London (including one I've got going on in LSE's new student centre... ahem), should you want to spend some time indoors and away from the warm weather...

DUBLIN

Wednesday 25 June: New Now Next: A New Generation
Project Arts Centre, East Essex Street, Dublin 2
The Irish Architecture Foundation presents talks from three young Irish architects: Lucy Jones, Laurence Lord and Steve Larkin. Chaired by Dominic Stevens, the event is free to attend AND sponsored by Tiger Beer. BOOM.

Until 30 June: 2ha Fundit campaign
fundit.ie
Independent publication on Irish suburbia 2ha returns to Fundit to fund its second year of issues. I've really enjoyed the first batch of zines, you might just enjoy the second. Watch the brilliant video below if you need more convincing.

1 - 31 July: PhotoIreland Festival
Various locations, Dublin
PhotoIreland, now in its fourth year, is Ireland's only festival focussed (see what I did there?) on photography. It's programme is always varied and always enjoyable, and it's theme for this year, 'Truths, Facts, Fictions, Lies' sounds particularly promising... Spending July further south? Check out the Cork Photo Fringe. Events free.

Until 17 August: RHA 184th Annual Exhibition
Royal Hibernian Academy, Ely Place, Dublin 2
This year's Annual Exhibition at the RHA features lots of art and some architecture, including work from McCullough Mulvin Architects, Yvonne Farrell of Grafton Architects, Gerry Cahill, Res Publica and more. Admission free.

LONDON

Wednesday 25 June: Intellectual Capital
LSE Students' Union, Saw Swee Hock Student Centre, WC2A 2AP
I'm doing a thing! I've organised an event at LSE Students' Union (that brand new O'Donnell + Tuomey building) as part of the London Festival of Architecture. It's a discursive event featuring wide ranging research being undertaken by LSE students looking at urban issues, public space, the building itself and more and it will be awesome. Like, totally awesome. And free.

Until 29 June: Scandinavian Pop-up Exhibition and Café
Platform Gallery, Habitat King's Road, SW3 5XP
Scandinavian design, talks and events, and a specially-created Nordic menu, all in one place until 29 June. Try and hold me back. Admission free (but the furniture and food will cost you...)

Until 27 July: The Glamour of Italian Fashion
V&A, Cromwell Road, SW7 2RL
This exhibition takes a comprehensive look at Italian fashion, its designers, its craftsmanship, its luxury and more from 1945 to the present day. Above is designer Valentino pictured in 1967 looking like an absolute boss.

Until 10 August: Comics Unmasked
British Library, Euston Road, NW1 2DB
A look at a wide range of British comics, from the classics of the 1970s, less mainstream work exploring politics, social issues and sex and even medieval manuscripts and the illustrated reports of Jack the Ripper from the 19th century, this exhibition looks like one to make some time for.

Until 25 August: The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier
The Barbican Centre, EC2Y 8DS
An in-depth look at one of fashion's most (in)famous designers, if you've not already been fashioned-out at the V&A...
